Why does time seem to go so much faster when we get older?

Summer used to feel so long when we were young, this year it ended so quickly.
Is there a scientific explanation for this?

Somewhat scientifically, you can look at it in terms of stimulation. Life itself is extremely stimulating when you are younger. Most of the day when you are older is routine things. Even when doing something cool like traveling, the little day to day things like riding in an elevator, walking down the street, smelling a restaurant, they are generally forgettable experiences by the end of the day, because it gave you very little mental stimulation. It’s not just “boring”, it’s about what kind of stimulating is going on in your mind… For a young person it’s all immersive and extremely stimulating to the mind. So it just feels like there is so much going on.

Try taking an absolutely thrilling vacation that’s immersive in activities, cuisine, and areas you’ve never been before. Time can feel like it slows down. It’s more stimulating to your mind.

You also tend to account for all of this by having more responsibilities and things to manage as you get older. Which makes time go by quicker as well.

It does? I’m in my 50’s and it doesn’t for me… maybe it’s cuz I’m childfree?? I didn’t have growing children as a reference point….?
