Why does very hot water, feel extremely cold on cold hands so you can bare it, before you focus on the thing that water is too hot and it hurts immediately?

It’s not that the water feels cold, it’s that your hands are so cold, the nerves aren’t responding. The cold you are feeling is your cold hands. Once the water has started to warm them, they update you to the change.
