Why does very hot water sometimes feel almost cold?

You have both hot and cold temperature receptors. Obviously the hot receptors are activated but considering this is very hot water, your body is overstimulated considering the danger you’re in. As a result, the cold receptors are also activated along with pain receptors.

Because, when something gets really hot, your fingers cant feel how hot it is and so your brain does the only thing it can think of and makes it feel cold
