Why does warm toast make the table under it get wet?

1.33K views

Right after taking the toast out of the toaster, I’ll place it on the table. When I pick it back up, the table is wet in the exact place where the toast was. Why does that happen?

Edit: none of the flairs seemed to really fit, so I picked as best I could..

There’s water in bread. Some of that water evaporates from the bread when you toast it – which is why you see steam rising off of freshly toasted bread. The wet spot on the table is from that steam condensing on the cool surface of the table.
