The bacteria, virus, parasite, or other illness has infiltrated your cells and to get rid of it your body kills infected cells and often healthy cells along with it. Kinda like if the military were to nuke a city to remove a threat inside it. Your body basically says “I bet I can kill this thing before I kill myself! And if I don’t I’m taking it down with me!”
