Why does your finger feel like it’s got s dent in the end when you stub it?

I’ve just stubbed my finger on a paper rack while cleaning my desk. A curse word was said and the pain has all but subsided. Do this made me wonder why when you stub your finger quite hard on something, especially when you hit the corner of something. Then when you touch the end of your finger you have stubbed it almost feels like it has a dent on the end and is going slightly inside-out.
