Why doesn’t human lungs function under water?

Water has very little oxygen in it you need to pass a lot of water over a very large structure to hope to extract significant oxygen from water, which is what gills can do. https://youtu.be/a7OPV3QZWfs
Because our lungs dont have the proper equipment to pull oxygen out of a non oxygen rich liquid
Not enough dissolved oxygen. Also, our muscles can’t move water for long periods of time.
There’s a liquid you can breathe (perflourocarbons I think), you can find video of rats breathing it for a short amount of time and you can see they are really working hard (they showed this in the movie The Abyss in relation to experimental diving gear, you can find the clip)
