why haven’t USB cables replaced every other cable, like Ethernet for example? They can transmit data, audio, etc. so why not make USB ports the standard everywhere?

why haven’t USB cables replaced every other cable, like Ethernet for example? They can transmit data, audio, etc. so why not make USB ports the standard everywhere?

It’s easy to crimp your own ethernet.

Also ethernet is good for 100 meters while USB works for 2 meters.

So if you want to run ethernet through walls etc you just need a hole the size of the cable, and you can put the ends on yourself with a $10 tool.

And if you want to do a rack-mount installation of a bunch of different things, you can cut the cable to the exact length you want, route it beautifully, and wind up on /r/cableporn.
