why in rally races there is a guy on a passenger seat explaining where to drive?

I don’t race, but I find the driving part of driving much easier when I have navigation open on my phone and don’t need to think too much about the next turn. Especially when there are a lot of other cars moving around that I need to be aware of.
I imagine racing is even harder than driving 100 straight miles along the Jersey Turnpike when everyone around you is going 80.
