The navigator is doing most of the work, the driver just drives.
So the nav looks after the timecards (bits of paper that are used for timing – duetimes, etc as everyone is goven a set time to drive betwen stages.
Making sure they are in the right place at the right time (leaving service etc)
The crew will go out and perform “recce” before the event, two passes over the stages to write pacenotes, descriptions of the road, turns, bumps, water crossings etc. this is read out and gives the driver a mental picture of what the road is doing, so they candrive flat out and get the car setup at the right speed and pointing the right way for the next corner, even if they cant see whats coming up.
