Alcohol is a CNS (Central Nervous System) depressent, meaning it depresses the functioning of the CNS. It does this by activating GABA receptors, whixh tells your cells and neurons to deactivate and go into rest mode. At the same time, it causes a release of Dopamine, Serotonin, and Endorphin, whoxh makes you feel good.
You already know now why it’s called a depressant now, so no need to repeat it to you again.
As for it making you less depressed, from my own experience, booze only ever made me feel good for a very short time, and if I kept drinking, I would inevitably get a “alcohol-depressions”.
Now, it’s been a long time since I partied hard, and it probably also had to do with my maturity level at the time, as well as raging hormones.
Literally, every time I went out to clubs in my 20s, there would at some point be chicks crying about stupid, dramatic shit (myself included every once in a while), and the guys would get in fights.
I think with alcohol, there is only a small window where it maybe lifts your mood, before it takes a turn for Shit Town.
