– Why is ASML’s technology so difficult to remake?

1.21K views

One would expect that reverse engineering technologies wouldn’t be impossible.

The importance of these technologies for China is huge.

Moreover, they have a massive budget and probably also own a couple of ASML’s euv lithography machines.

Why is it that they cant remake these machines?

I heard some sources say that it might take them a decade.

Because ASML’s engineers smoke monstrous amounts of meth and coke before going into the workplace.

FR though

China is really good at reverse engineering, it’s impressive how good they are at it. ASML is really good at engineering, physics, math, chemistry, metrology, all of the things. China specializes in bulk, imprecise manufacturing techniques and that specialty does not go well with the super precise, and accurate nature of lithography. I doubt that China could take apart and reassemble an ASML machine just because of the hilarious amount of calibration you have to do to make it work is just insane. Remember to ship one of ASML’s machines it takes something like three 747’s to ship one of their machines and you have to have people that know how to calibrate it to make it work.

I guess it was a lot easier for the Chinese to steal all the ip for the F-23 Raptor. I wish the Chinese would just out right acknowledge that they stole the 20th Century from the West because the west were a bunch of naieve, trusting, inattentive slobs
