Why is Britney Spears assigned a conservatorship where she can’t control her finances?

Bc she had many outside influences outside of her control in a short span of time resulting in a ‘mental anguish’ of sorts to which for a short time a conservatorship would be appropriate.

However over the span of the 10? Plus years (someone please correct me) she has more than proved she has the mental, career and parental control and responsibility to not be in a conservatorship any longer. #freebritney

Edit: or to at least have the conservatorship rearranged to management outside of her immediate family if that is her wish. Which, bias would say, should be the case anyway.

Such arrangements are typically mandatory if a court judges someone to be mentally incompetent, which appears to be the case here.

She has Bipolar Disorder. Ten years ago, she had a mental break after a lot of personal issues arose at once. She was going through a nasty divorce, custody battle, career pressures, addiction issues. It was basically inevitable after a lifetime of being mistreated.
During this mental break, the conservatorship was assigned to prevent her from ruining her life completely and spending her entire fortune (She was well on her way to doing so).
She’s now stable and medicated, and would like more control over her life and finances. Or, more specifically, for her father to have less control.
I think she’s actually stated she doesn’t want the conservatorship completely lifted, just transferred to someone who would give her a little more control in her life.

From what I remember, she was hounded and pressured and controlled while being vilified in the media. She ended up doing some extreme things, and maybe a conservatorship made sense briefly. The concern was that she would spend all her money and be unable to work and live her life. But she never wanted her father in control and the fact that it’s been so long is pretty gross.
