When you burn food all the way down to soot you create a bunch of carbon molecules that are outright cancerous.

The general rule of thumb is that if it is the product of fire and it is not white like ash, it is toxic.

It isn’t unsafe or dangerous to eat. The longer something cooks, the more the flavor changes, when it’s been overcooked, a charred or “burnt” flavor develops, but it’s not bad for you.

But as its mostly the case, a bit isn’t harmful. But u don’t get and needed nutrients from burned food.
