Speed = Distance / Time so Distance = Speed * Time. Speed (light) * Time (years) is a measure of distance (light years).

It seems a weird unit of measure that’s neither intuitive to the layman nor used by the pros: they use parsecs, where 1 parsec is about 3.26 light years (it’s one second of parallax).

In proper SI units one light year is about 9.46 petameters and a parsec is 30.85 petameters, but that’s weird too since we don’t use SI prefixes for positive ranges of meters either.
