Additionally, diesel in the US is often taxed more than regular gas. Since most diesel vehicles in the US are commercial vehicles as well, consumers aren’t directly impacted as much, so this is more of a business tax.
One of the factors is that diesel and gas are taxed differently.
In the US a large majority of vehicles running on diesel are commercial and industrial vehicles. So lawmakers found out that taxing diesel differently can help fund transportation infrastructure costs.
