why is Himalayan pink salt less salty than white salt?

Himalayan pink salt is 98% sodium chloride, so it is almost as salty as pure salt.

But it is typically served as a larger crystal, like rock salt. And the larger the crystal the less surface area per unit of volume. Which means that it will dissolve more slowly and less salt will get in your system in the same amount of time.

If you grind it to the same degree that regular table salt is normally ground then it should not have a noticeable difference in saltiness at all.

Impurities. The fact that it is pink immediately tells you there is stuff in it that isn’t salt (NaCl)

Because there are other minerals in it. Not just NaCl salt.

So 100grams of Himalayan salt will have less sodium atoms than 100 grams of normal table salt.
