Because we have the textile infrastructure to get cotton from farm to factory to store in the most efficient and cost effective way.

Companies only make things that they know people want to buy and this make the company money. People want to buy cotton because it is common knowledge that cotton is soft and inexpensive.

First, both Hemp and Flax have traditionally shorter fibers, which makes the resulting cloth scratchier. People don’t like that.

Second, both need retting to access the fiber, meaning submerging them in water for an extended perior. This is also a *very* smelly process.

Third, Hemp had massive issues, especially in the USA, since it’s basically the same plant as Marhijuana.

Cotton, by comparison, is much easier to process.
