Imagine a skin pore as an anus. The circular opening of the pore is the sphincter muscle. When you pop that pimple, you permanently enlarge that opening and even rupture it, creating a nasty scar. Multiply that by 20,000 (give or take). In the long term your face it’s going to look like a detonated minefield. The skin will heal but the craters will still be visible ( especially under overhead light i.e. daylight, night club light etc.)
If it’s on the verge of popping anyway and very light gentle pressure is enough to get it there, then it’s fine. Just wash your skin thoroughly (but gently) to make sure all bacteria is off.
But if it’s resistant to popping, using more pressure/force will indeed be damaging. You’re basically bruising your skin and, if the pimple bursts, you’ll cause more skin breakage than is necessary. Also when you pop pimples it often scabs and it’s very tempting to pick that scab, increasing the chance of scarring. It will also take longer to heal.
So TLDR: Only pop with clean hands if pimple is ready and you only need a tiny bit of pressure. If it resists, just keep it clean and apply some ice if it’s swollen/painful.
