Becuase you are writing it down in Latin (Roman) alphabet. All European alphabets with a few exception use the same Latin alphabet.

Because its not just the English alphabet – it’s the Latin alphabet, as used by the ancient Romans, but now used to write many different languages (English, French, Spanish, German, Dutch, etc).
