Why is it necessary to rinse eyes for 15 minutes after getting a chemical in? Wouldn’t 1 minute be enough?

As an optometrist the advice I was given was to irrigate the eye so much that you think you couldn’t possibly irrigate it anymore. Then irrigate it the same amount again. Chemical injuries are no joke.
