Think less of them as side effects and more of them as a set of effects. You get them all or none. They’re only side effects because you don’t want them but they’re part of getting your body to do what you want.

Steroids are hormones and all matching hormone receptors will react to them, both those for the main effect and those for the side effects

I’d recommend not using steroids unless your doctor prescribes them. They’re not worth it

The only difference between the “real” effect and the side effect is you want one but don’t want the other.

Your body doesn’t care which you want, you get them all. The compound doesn’t care which one you want, you get them all.

It’s not unheard of for medicine to be prescribed specifically for its side effects as they end up more useful than the main purpose.
