why is it painful to be on your feet for extended periods of time? Is weight a big factor?

I’ve been working at McDonald’s for almost 9 months now, and any shifts longer than 4 hours, my feet start to hurt.

I am overweight, Last time I checked it was 230lbs. But I have heard of similar complaints from coworkers and people online.

Is it the case of too much of a good thing? (Being active and about)

If you are standing still, your feet and knees will hurt. Especially standing on concrete. Good shoes, with good arch support make a huge difference. Standing kitchen mats make a big difference too. Even standing on a piece of plywood helps.

Weight doesn’t make that big of a difference. In college, I worked double shifts in a commercial kitchen and my feet and knees put up with it fine. I was 240 lbs at the time but I had good shoes and kept moving. It’s standing still that really kills. Walk as much as you can.
