why is it painful to be on your feet for extended periods of time? Is weight a big factor?

I’ve been working at McDonald’s for almost 9 months now, and any shifts longer than 4 hours, my feet start to hurt.

I am overweight, Last time I checked it was 230lbs. But I have heard of similar complaints from coworkers and people online.

Is it the case of too much of a good thing? (Being active and about)

This is a an example of how humans aren’t indigenous to this planet!

If you are standing still, your feet and knees will hurt. Especially standing on concrete. Good shoes, with good arch support make a huge difference. Standing kitchen mats make a big difference too. Even standing on a piece of plywood helps.

Weight doesn’t make that big of a difference. In college, I worked double shifts in a commercial kitchen and my feet and knees put up with it fine. I was 240 lbs at the time but I had good shoes and kept moving. It’s standing still that really kills. Walk as much as you can.

Get compression socks and an nice pair of sneakers. My feet never hurt when I was doing 12s at the hospital after making those changes

Being overweight doesn’t help, but in general standing is worse than walking. I’m overweight myself, but I can walk all day long no problem, but my feet and legs hurt after standing in place for just a few minutes.

Standing on your feet for a long time can hurt your feet at any weight.

I will say, i’ve lost 50lbs over the last year and my chronic plantar fasciitis has disappeared and yes otherwise my feet feel better after a hike too.

So you’re overweight, and can’t handle doing physical fitness for long.

And your co-workers and buddies online, you didn’t confirm if they’re overweight as well and also suck at doing physical fitness.

I can’t find a correlation. I’ma guess it’s the Chem Trails in the air.

Well 230 lbs can tell it. I weight around 65-70kg I don’t have that much issue to stand that much and I see many people have shifts around 10-12hr. The math from square of your contact are to ground and cube fo your vol.

Yea, being overweight will definitely have an effect.

But, standing, for too long, sitting for too long or laying down for too long can all be hard on you.

You should be moving around realistically, and alternating between these positions, avoid doing any of these for extended periods.

Walking / moving around is best, motion is lotion.

Try two pairs of socks. I’m a big dude and It got me through my hospitality years with pretty good feet and back.

I recently gained 70 pounds, and then lost 40. My knees and ankles/feet hurt a ton when I was 210 pounds. It’s 100% weight related. Also I’d recommend investing in nice padded socks and shoe inserts. Can probably do both for under $50
