Since element numbers are based on protons, why can’t they just add more to discover element 119, 120, etc?

For each proton that you add, you need to add some 20 neutrons as well. So you can’t just shoot protons into an already large nucleus, you need to take two already large atoms and slam them together and hope they don’t explode. If they do stick they only live for a couple of milliseconds before they decay and nope the hell out of existence.
