Why is it so hard to track down the debris of the large objects shot town over NA this weekend?

Looks like they’re still looking for it. But why wasn’t as easy as just having a helicopter fly out there and tracking it while it was on its way down?

Signal processing could be a factor. Radar signal returns are processed using computers, as no those computers will filter out signals that are deemed irrelevant to national security. A balloon has a different signature than a bomber or a cruise missile, and we’ve mainly been looking for the latter two until recently. It may take some time to develop tracking procedures for balloons and such.
