Why is it so loud after it rains?

As the title says, why is it so loud after it rains? I feel like after or during rain I can hear every car on the road in a 3 mile radius. Sound seems to travel farther and I can even hear people talking down the road.

Sound travels by a wave moving through the air (or other substance). The denser the air, the easier sound travels through it. When it rains, the air is typically cooled down at least a bit, and air is denser when it’s colder.
