Answer: It does have to do with biology. Infants and young children have the ability to breath and swallow simultaneously. This mechanism changes as the child grows (typically around age 7-ish)

I’m assuming that it’s because the nipple acts as a stopper and baby bottles are designed to only release fluids when sucked on. Has nothing to do with biology.

It’s not dangerous when you get older. You just need to make sure you’re not inhaling while you are swallowing, since the flap needs to cover one or the other duct.
