Your air filled chest is like a swingset, when you just jiggle the swing at a high rate it wont go anywhere. When the jiggle happens at just the right rate the swing will go up up up, aka your chest goes brrr. This happens with bass notes

Sound is vibration in the air. Low tones push more air.

The bass tones are send to separate speakers and large venues use separate amps and they have a lot more wattage

Likely the add on surround sound system for your DVD player has a separate bass speaker and I’m sure inside is a little circuit board to boost the power of it.
