Why is it that if you hit an item (like a glass cup) on the bottom, it will break at the top?

This happened to me a few hours ago when I bumped the bottom a glass cup against the cupboard and the top part broke.

Because the impact generates a force that ripples through the glass and breaks it at specific areas that cannot dissipate or channel the energy, such as thin edges, curves and fodls

Probably vibrations through the glass broke the weaker top part instead of the thicker bottom
