* You are told to turn a device off and on to clear its memory and allow it to start fresh from a default state.
* Power supplies contain capacitors to “clean up” and smooth out the electricity supplied to electronic devices. Microcontrollers and other components have further capacitors for the same purpose.
* Capacitors store energy, and will release it even after the power supply is turned off. This may partially power some memory and cause old data to be stored.
* Therefore you are told to leave the device off for 10 seconds to allow all the energy to discharge, to allow all memory to clear for a full reset.
