Why is it that when you have dandruff you can shake your head for like an hour and the dandruff snow never seems get any less?

Friction from the shaking is what causes the dry scalp skin to flake and fall off. You make more “snow” by scratching and shaking.

your hair serves as a protecting layer for your scalp, so it prevents your scalp from running on things, hence the build up of dandruff

If you are going through bad dandruff, I fought it for years. I would say a couple things I’ve tried that at least help me. Try and be consistent on the products you use, like if you are going to be somewhere else and showering there take your hair care stuff. Using my own products consistently seemed to be better, because the second I use another set I get flakes. Secondly, I always go for the “moisturizing” stuff, and I AVOID dandruff shampoos. IDK why…. But dandruff shampoos did nothing for me, and I just use the moisturizer stuff and it helped. Purely anecdotal, might help.
