Why is ketamine the go-to sedative for pediatric surgeries? What about it is different in adults?

All I can find on the topic are lengthy articles & journals that I can’t understand, but I recently learned that David After Dentist (old viral video) wasn’t coming down from regular anesthesia, he was coming down from ketamine! Now I’m curious.

General anesthesia isn’t a specific drug. A variety of drugs, including ketamine, are used depending on what procedure is happening. I don’t think ketamine is strictly used in children either.

Ketamine is sometimes used in surgery for children and older people because it suppresses breathing much less than other anesthetics. (Breathing is easier)
