Why is meat banned from being brung from overseas?

It never made much sense to me. Meat, especially dried ones, shouldn’t have risk at all right?

Protein in animal feed makes the animals grow faster. One of the easiest ways to get protein is from other animals. Some countries allow feed products to be made from other animals’ brains. Diseases from prions, like Mad Cow disease, can be spread this way. Eating meat that has been infected with prions will infect the people eating it also. It ensures safety of the meat supply as some supply chains aren’t well controlled.
