Your nose filters air better, so you get more efficient breathing, as opposed to mouth breathing.

There is a lot of blood flow in your nose so breathing through your nose cools you more effectively. Also, it helps to prevent hyperventilation which could lead to dizziness.

Of many benefits, nasal breathing releases nitric oxide (NO). NO is a vasodilator, which helps to widen blood vessels, which in turn improves oxygen circulation within the body.

Breathing through your nose stimulates the parasympathetic nervous system, or your “rest & digest” response— aka, it’s calming. Mouth breathing does the opposite.

* Nasal turbinates and nosehairs help to reduce air pollution that makes it to the lungs
* The nose helps humidify the air before it gets to lungs. The lungs absorb oxygen better when moist
* Mouth breathing can dry out the mouth, which is bad for your gums
