Plastic that gets into the oceans can cause several issues. First it can entrap wildlife getting caught around fins etc. Second animals like turtles can mistake Plastic for food ( bags look alot like jellyfish to them) third the plastic can physically break down into micro plastic that get consumed by fish etc accidentally. Micro plastic has been linked to endocrine disruption and clogging gills amongst other problems.
Ultimately micro plastic can end up in our bodies and thus could have similar effects on our biochemistry.
Aluminium doesn’t degrade in this way, and isn’t mistaken for food, and doesn’t trap animals as a plastic net or rope might.
