When you get a bite, your body realizes something is wrong and will do it’s best to fix it. Sometimes, this means your skin will start to swell up, and the pressure from that might result in an “itch.”

When you go to scratch that itch, your actually cause yourself a little bit of pain, but that pain distracts your brain from the itch.

But the brain has a clever way of dealing with pain, it releases a chemical called serotonin which makes you feel pretty good. So when you scratch hard enough, your brain is distracted from that annoying itch, and your body feels good and is relieved not to feel that itch.
