why is so much boomer humor about hating your wife/ kids?

What Boomers conveniently fail to mention is how much the previous generation looked down on them.
Asking this about the generation that came of age during Free Love? To me the message or assumption behind all that humor is mostly “I could be getting all sorts of other tail but I’m stuck with my wife and kids”
Boomers rushed to get married and have kids due to societal pressures. Those relationships were not healthy or fulfilling and majority resented their spouses
Because deep down they resent getting married and having kids
It was expected of them. Didn’t really have a choice.

Probably because they all got married to the first person they ever dated, because that’s what people did in their day and now they are miserable.

It’s like fart jokes. Jokes as old as time. I’m just younger than boomers but my wife and I make the same jokes in public all the time.
Me and my wife LOVE the classic ‘hate my spouse’ jokes they always go off in a social setting
honestly that’s just weird. like maybe they think it’s relatable or somthin. but it gives a bad vibe. hating isn’t the answer ya know
There’s lots of boomer humor that’s putting down the dad as well.
Regardless, I think it’s funny because it’s true is part of the explanation. People do resent being parents and partners sometimes even if overall we wouldn’t have it any other way.
It might even be important to have an outlet to say this.
Imagine you HAVE to get a spouse because everyone does. Not being married is cringe.
And once you chose one, you are together for life. Because divorce is cringe.
Now imagine not getting along with your spouse from the beginning or starting at some point during the relationship. Well too bad. You are stuck, whether you hate or love them.
