Why is the heart considered as a source of emotion?

When all decisions/emotions/attractions/thoughts etc. originate form the brain, why do people use “heart” in such contexts?

Get excited, angry, anxious, in love, etc… you tend to feel it in the chest. Pain or tightness, heart racing. It’s not a great leap to think of the heart as the source of emotion when you can usually feel things changing in that area during highly emotional times.

If you’ve ever felt “heartache” over a loved one it’s pretty self-evident I’d say.
