When all decisions/emotions/attractions/thoughts etc. originate form the brain, why do people use “heart” in such contexts?

My heart beats a bit faster when I see my woman. It seems to stop suddenly when I think my child is hurt. It pounds out of my chest when I’m startled in fear or surprise. It elicits a response to my emotional state that reciprocates my emotions. Without a doubt it has the most definitive tactile feedback of any organ in my body in terms of physical presence in emotional highs and lows. In summation, it’s very fitting that it can be broken and healed by emotions alone giving it great weight within me. Hope that helps.
