Yes, that’s why there’s a rule in place. Same reason there are restrictions on engine size and budget caps.

Because back in the day car manufacturers used to “lighten” their car by essentially dipping their metal frame in acid.

This…. obviously… significantly weakened the car and made it very bad in a crash.

They wanted to avoid that. So the minimum weight is basically enough to make the cars safe.

Multiple reasons. One for safety, they wouldn’t want teams compromising the structure to save weight, and two to help competitiveness. F1 already has a cost cap but restricting the minimum weight also can help teams with less budgets catch up in some aspects.
