Why is there a pain in the back of your throat when you swallow specific types of drinks?

Like with apple cider, I was just drinking it, when it reaches the bottom of your throat, there’s a slight stinging. Why does this happen?

Was the cider carbonated? Carbonated drinks release carbon dioxide, which can form carbonic acid when combined with water (this is why your nose/upper throat hurt when you burp after drinking carbonated beverages).
