Hydroponic systems have a device to add oxygen to the water similar to a fish tank. So long as there’s enough oxygen dissolved in the water the roots won’t drown pike they can if overwatered.

Plants grow two type of roots, air roots and water roots. Plants in dirt grow air roots which is why they can drown if over watered. Depending on the type of hydroponics the plant will grow the correct roots. Kratky is a type of hydroponic setup where the roots in the water are water roots and the roots above water are air roots. Deep water culture hydroponics has an air stone in the water so the roots are all air roots.
