Why is Wordsworth’s most important work titled “Prelude”? Prelude to what?

And while we’re at it: When the middle pieces of orchestral works are titled “intermezzo”, does it mean there they are less important than the main attraction? Why include them then and not just go directly to the next piece?

Wordsworth died before he could complete “The Recluse”, which would’ve followed “The Prelude”.

An orchestral or instrumental intermezzo joins two major pieces together. Going straight from one to the other may be jarring if the themes/styles are not similar, yet the pieces are significant enough in and of themselves to not be permanently changed simply to fit the assumed following piece.
