Why isn’t Earth as rocky as Mars?

When I see pictures from the Mars rover, the surface is usually covered with fairly large rocks. But the terrain of Earth is relatively smooth in comparison. Is there a reason for this?

Earth and Mars formed in similar circumstances and probably looked very similar at one point. On earth our large rocks got broken down in sand and soil over time due to erosion.

The process of erosion is much much slower on Mars. There has not been flowing liquid water on Mars’ surface for millions of years now. Even the air is less than 1% the density of our atmosphere so the wind contributes even less. There’s also only 1/3 earth gravity on Mars so large rock and mineral formations have less weight, so less structural stress.
