Why ISN’T there a fat-burning pill?

Everywhere you see advertisements “this pill targets fat” or sometimes “Specifically the fat located in your gut!” And naturally they all are either extremely misleading or just outright scams.

I don’t need it explained why those exist, it’s a simple enough thing to advertise and attract enough people willing to part with their money. My question is: Why hasn’t anyone made one that actually works? What’s the science behind a supplement that specifically burns fat in your body? (I know the whole ‘targeting the gut’ thing is just fantasy)

Is there some scientific reason that we can’t create a lose-fat pill? Is it a matter of making one that actually works would be far too expensive for the consumer that would buy it? Would it be too dangerous a thing to actually exist? Or does one actually exist and I’m just assuming it doesn’t because all the ones I’ve seen are clearly fake.

(obligatory acknowledgement that yes, if you want to lose fat then diet + exercise)

Do you mean meth? You can lose weight with drugs, but the side effects are awful. I’d rather be fat and sane than skinny and paranoid about the shadow people chasing me.
