why isn’t there a universal clothing size chart?

Why does the US, UK, Australia etc all have different clothing sizes instead of all just agreeing on one universal? It would make shopping so much easier if an 8 was an 8 all over the world.

No one wants to change their system. And an 8 is not an 8 between brands in the US, so I’m told.
