It’s not a physical game, yet I have never seen any women playing against men. I remember once there was a charity game where men and women played but not official Fide tournaments.
Forgive me if they have, they r very rare at least.

Same reason as bench presses, really. I’m sure it isn’t very woke to say it, but pressure forms diamonds. Women have always been subject to different pressures than men.
In The Queen’s Gambit the female main character competed regularly against men and beat a lot of them. She’s a badass chess master.
