This may be an Australian thing. A lot of sauce bottles here have a sort of ribbed, cone-shaped screw top lid. You have to unscrew it a bit so you can squeeze out the sauce.
Because of the cone shape, it is quite difficult to grip and twist this top, and have always wondered why they designed it this way.
