I mean war always has been a part of our life since the first civilizations was established. I’m sure “shellshock” wasn’t only caused by artilery shots.

It wasn’t. There are accounts of people who clearly have some form of ptsd in the Odyssey, Iliad, and Aeneid. But WW1 was the worst war to date and by far the biggest.
